Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

  • AD = 6 cm
  • AF = 4 cm
  • AB = 10 cm

To find :

  • the area of the shaded region

Solution :

In ∆ADF,

• AD = 6cm and AF = 4cm

By using Pythagoras Theorem

we will find the length of DF

DF² = DA² + AF²

DF² = 6² + 4²

DF² = 36 + 16

DF² = 52

DF = √52

DF = 7.21

Therefore, length of DF = 7.21cm

Now, we will find the length of FB

FB = AB - AF

FB = 10cm - 4cm

FB = 6cm

According to the question BEDF is a parallelogram

∴ BF || DE and DF || EB

But according to the diagram

BF = DE and DF = EB

Therefore, the shaded region is now a rectangle

Area of a rectangle = length × breadth

= 6cm × 7.21cm

= 43.26cm

Therefore, the area of the shaded region is 43.26cm
