Let the non-shaded portion be ABCD; and the outer rectangle be PQRS

PS=12

now as we know that the opposite sides are equal in the rectangle, so the value of RS is also 12

so the side of CD will be 12-(1.5+1.5)

=9m

Therefore the value of CD=AB+9m

now we know that BC=AD

and PS=12mso the value is 12-4=8m

hence the area of the rectangle ABCD is

=72m²
