area of a regular hexagon = 3√3 a² / 2
= 3√3 * 8 * 8 / 2 
= 3√3 * 32 
= 96√3 
therefore the answer is 96√3 cm² .

If we join the diagonals of a regular hexagon, we get six equilateral triangles with length of each side 8 cm.

So, Area of regular hexagon=6* Area of 1 equilateral triangle
                                             =6 * √3/4 * 8²
                                             = 6 * √3/4 * 64
                                             =  6 * √3 * 16
                                             = 48√3 cm²
