find the area of a square if the length of its side is doubled. also find the ratio of new area to its previous area.

Let the side of square = a
Area of square = a²

Length of its side is doubled = 2a
New area = (2a)²  = 4a²

Ratio of new area to its previous area = 4a² a² = 4 : 1

let the side of square be 's'
area=s²
now,new side=2s
new area    =(2s)²
                   =4s²
ratio=4s²:s²=4:1
