let the side of the square is x m

so diagonal=√(x^2+x^2) m

=√2x^2 m

=√2x m

√2x=2.9

=>(√2x)^2=(2.9)^2

=>2x^2=841

=> x^2=841/2=420.50

so area of the square is 420.50 sq m
