let , AB = x

by using pythagorus theorem ,

in ^ ABC ,

AC^2 = AB^2 + BC^2

x^2 + x^2 = 5√2 ^2

2x^2 = 5√2 × 5√2

2x^2 = 50

x^2 = 50/2

x^2 = 25

x = √25 :. x = 5

formula of area of square = 4 × side

= 4 × 5

= 20 cm^2
