Let BC=b.

Area of triangle ABC=1/2 xbxh

A (triangleABC) =1/2×BCXAD

36 = 1/2xbx3

36 x2 = bx3

72 = b x 3

72/3 =b

b =24

AD=24cm

Hope it helps you! .
