Step-by-step explanation:

Area of equilateral triangle with side (a) =12cm

 \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{4}  \times  {a}^{2}

   = \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{4}  \times  {12}^{2}   \\  =  \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{4}  \times 12 \times 12 \\   = { \sqrt{3} }  \times 3 \times 12 \\  36 \sqrt{3} \:  {cm}^{2}

Now the height of triangle with side(a) = 12

 \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{2}  \times a \\ =   \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{2}  \times 12 \\  =   \sqrt{3} \times 6 \\  = 6 \sqrt{3} \:  {cm}^{2}
