The area of any triangle is the base length multiplied by one-half the perpendicular height of the vertex above that base. It can also be the product of one-half the base length and the perpendicular height of the vertex above that base. An isosceles right triangle is one in which there are two equal-length sides and a right angle between those sides. Every triangle has, as the sum of its interior angles, 180 degrees. Therefore the two angles at the base, opposite the right angle, will be 45 degrees each (45 + 45 + 90 = 180). The perpendicular distance from that base line up to the vertex will be 9 cm if the base line is a total of 18 cm. Therefore the area will be (9 * 9 = 81 cm^2) 81 cm^2.
