Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

S=(a+b+c)/2=(5+5+8)/2=18/2=9

Area =root s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)

=root 9(9-5)(9-5)(9-8)

=root 9×4×4×1

=root 144

=12

Therefore or Hence ,Area of the isosceles triangle is 12 square mertre

Given : an isosceles triangle, whose two equal sides are 5  cm each and third side is 8cm.

To find : area of triangle

Solution :

In an isosceles triangle median on unequal side is also perpendicular

Let say  AB = AC  = 5 cm  , BC = 8 cm

and AD median to BC => AD ⊥ BC

=> BD = CD = BC/2 = 8/2 = 4 cm

AD² = AB² - BD²

=> AD² = 5² - 4²

=> AD² = 9

=> AD = 3 cm

Area of Δ ABC = (1/2) BC * AD

= (1/2) * 8 * 3

= 12 cm²

area of an isosceles triangle, whose two equal sides are 5  cm each and third side is 8cm  is 12 cm²
