5cm²

Step-by-step explanation:

We can get the area of ∆APB by subtracting area of ∆BPC from area of ∆ABC

i.e. ar∆APB = ar∆ABC - ar∆BPC (1)

ar∆BPC = 9 cm² ...given

We know that area of triangle is 1/2 × base × height

since, in ABC

base = AB = 4cm

height = h = 7cm

so,

ar∆ABC

 =  \frac{1}{2}  \times AB \times h \\  =  \frac{1}{2}  \times 4 \times 7 \\  = 2 \times 7 \\ =  14 {cm}^{2}

From (1)

ar∆APB = 14 - 9 = 5 cm²

Therefore, the area of triangle APB is 5cm².
