Given : A field 80 x 80 m having 2 roads of width 3 m at right angle to each other through the centre of the field

To Find  :   area of both roads

Solution:

Length of  each road = 80 m

Width of Each road = 3 m

Area of each road =  80 x  3  = 240 m²

Area of both roads = 2 * 240 = 480 m²

but there is common area of both roads

common area of both roads = 3 * 3 = 9 m²

Area of both roads =  480 - 9  = 471 m²

other way to find area is = 2 * 3 * (80 - 3)  +  3 * 3

= 462 + 9

= 471 m²

Area of  both roads  =  471 m²

common area of roads = 9 m²
