by using Pythagoras theoram

hypotenuse ^2= perpendicular^2+base^2

13^2 = 5^2+x^2

169 =25+x^2

x^2 = 169-25=144

x = √144=12

base = 12 cm

area of triangle =1/2× base ×perpendicular(height)

= 1/2×12×5=6×5=30 cm^2
