Solution :

See the attachment for the labels .

Let us break the figure into a few parts and calculate their area seperately. Adding them will give the total area !

Total Areas :

> Area of Rectangle ABCG + Area of rectangle DEGF

In rectangle ABCG

AG = BC = 3 units.

AB = GC = 1 unit .

Area of rectangle ABCG :

> AG × AB

> 3 unit² .

Area of rectangle DEGF :

> Length = 1 unit

> Breadth = 2 units .

Area - 2 unit ² .

Total area of figure : 5 unit² .

This is the required answer.
