The area of the given quadrilateral ABCD is 441 cm².

Step-by-step explanation:

Referring to the given figure, we have

ABCD is a quadrilateral

BD = 42 cm

AN = 12 cm

CM = 9 cm

AN and CM are perpendicular to BD

Now,

Consider ∆ABD, we have

Base, BD = 42 cm

Height, AN = 12 cm

Area of ∆ABD = ½ * base * height = ½ * 42 * 12 = 252 cm² ….. (i)

And,

Consider ∆CBD, we have

Base, BD = 42 cm

Height, CM = 9 cm

Area of ∆CBD = ½ * base * height = ½ * 42 * 9 = 189 cm² …… (ii)

Thus,

The area of the quadrilateral is given by,

= [Area of ∆ABD] + [Area of ∆CBD]

Substituting from (i) & (ii)

= 252 cm² + 189 cm²

= 441 cm²
