Answer:

In rt ️ ABC

By pythagoras theorem

AC²=AB²+BC²

13²=5²+BC²

169=25+BC²

BC²=169-25

BC²=144

BC=√144

BC=12cm

Ar of ️= ½×AB×BC

=½×5×12

30cm

GIVEN:

A right triangle ABC with ∠B = 90⁰

AB = 5cm

AC = 13cm

SOLUTION:

In right triangle ABC,

AB² + BC² = AC² (pythagoras theorem)

==> BC² = AC² - AB²

==> BC² = (13)² - (5)²

==> BC² = 169 - 25

==> BC = √144

==> BC = 12

∴ The base BC is 12 cm

Area of a right triangle = 1/2×base×height

= 1/2 × 5 × 12

= 6 × 5

= 30

∴Required area of the triangle is 30 cm²
