QUESTION :

Find the area of rhombus whose side is 10 cm and diagonal is 16 cm.

GIVEN :

  • The side of a rhombus = 10 cm
  • The side of a diagonal = 16 cm

TO FIND :

  • The area of the rhombus = ?

STEP - BY - STEP EXPLAINATION :

=> The side of the rhombus = 10 cm

( GIVEN )

=> The side of a diagonal = 16 cm ( GIVEN )

=> The area of the rhombus, when the information are given = ?

So, now let us find the area of the rhombus.

In a triangle Mnpq

One diagonal is given so we will have to find 2nd diagonal,

=> 16/2 = 8

Using The method of Pythagoras theorem :

→ Mn² = np² + qm²

→ (10)² = (8)² + qm²

→ qm² = (10)² - (8)²

→ qm² = 100 - 64

→ qm² = 36

 =  >  \sqrt{36}  = 6

→ Diagonal qm = 6 × 2 = 12

→ Area of Rhombus = 1/2 × d1 × d2

( After substituting the value of d1 & d2 )

→ Area of Rhombus = 1/2 × 16 × 12

→ Area of Rhombus = 96 cm²

Therefore, the area of rhombus = 96 cm².
