The shaded portion is a triangle whose base DE is given and height EF is given. Height is given outside the triangle but we can use it to find the area of the triangle. We don't have to find the area of the whole figure. We can easily find out the area of the shaded portion.

Base = 16 m

Height = 7.5 m

\sf Area=\dfrac{1}{2}\times Base\times Height

\sf Area=\dfrac{1}{2}\times 16\:m\times 7.5\:m

Area = 60 m²

Area of the shaded portion is 60 m²
