area of the shaded region is 235.45 m²

Step-by-step explanation:

breadth of the rectangle BC = 12 m

breadth of the inner rectangle EFGH = 12-(4+4) = 4 m

breadth of the inner rectangle EFGH = diameter of the semicircle = 4 m

radius of the semi circle = 2 m

length of the inner rectangle = 26-(5+5) = 16 m

area of the two semi circles EJF and HIG = 2(\frac{\pi r^2}{2} )

= 2\times \pi \times \frac{4}{2}

= 4\pi m

area of the inner rectangle EFGH =  EH × FG = 16×4 = 64 m²

area of the outer rectangle ABCD = 26×12 = 312 m²

area of the shaded region = area of the  outer rectangle  - (area of the two semi circles+area of the inner rectangle)

= 312 -(64+ 4\pi )

=(248-4\pi ) m^2

which is approximately 235.45 m²

hence,

area of the shaded region is 235.45 m²
