3.5 + 3.5 = 7cm

area of big square = side² = 7² = 49cm²

area of sector = 1/2×r² theta ....theta is in redian

area of a sector = 1/2 × 3.5 × pi/2 .....(angle of square)

= 3.5pi/4 = 0.875pi cm²

= 0.875 × 22/7 = 2.75cm²

there 4 sectors,

•°• 2.75 × 4 = 11cm²

area of 4 sector = 11cm²

area of shaded region = A(square) - A(4 sector)

= 49 - 11 = 38cm²

Area of shaded region = 38cm²
