Question :------ we have to find area of following figure ..

Given :------

  • Perpendicular1 distance from diagonal = 3 cm
  • Perpendicular2 distance from diagonal = 3 cm
  • Diagonal of Quadrilateral = 12cm .

Solution :--------

we can solve this in 2 ways ...

method (1)

first we find area of both ∆s and than add them , we get area of quadrilateral ...

we know that , area of ∆ is given by = 1/2 * Base * perpendicular Height .

Here base of both ∆'s = Diagonal of Quadrilateral = 12cm

and Height of Both ∆'s also same = 3 cm .

so, both ∆ have Equal area .

area of ∆ = 1/2 × 12 × 3 = 18cm²

area of both ∆'s = 18×2 = 36cm²

so, Area of Quadrilateral = Area of both ∆'s = 36cm² (Ans)

method (2)

we know that , Area of Quadrilateral =

1/2 × ( sum of perpendicular distance between diagonal on both corners ) × length of diagonal .

so,

Area of quadrilateral = 1/2 × (3+3) × 12 = 1/2 × 6 × 12 = 36cm² (Ans)

(Hope it helps you)
