GIVEN :-

  • ED = 12 cm.
  • AC = 20 cm.
  • BD = 30 cm.

TO FIND :-

  • The area of the given polygon.

SOLUTION :-

Area BAC,

➳ BE + ED = 30 cm.

➳ BE + 12 cm = 30 cm.

➳ BE = 30 cm - 12 cm.

BE = 18 cm.

Now in ∆ BAC we have,

➵ Altitude , BE = 18 cm.

➵ Base , AC = 20 cm.

Now , as we know that the area of triangle is given by,

Area = 1/2 × base × altitude.

➵ Area = 1/2 × 18 × 20.

➵ Area = 9 × 20

➵ Area = 180 cm².

Hence the area of BAC is 180 cm².

Area DAC,

Here in ∆ DAC we have,

➟ Altitude , ED = 12 cm.

➟ Base , AC = 20 cm.

Now , as we know that the area of triangle is given by,

Area = 1/2 × base × altitude.

➟ Area = 1/2 × 12 × 20

➟ Area = 6 × 20

➟ Area = 120 cm².

Hence area of DAC is 120 cm².

Area of Polygon ABCD,

Area of polygon = Area ( BAC) + Area ( DAC).

➙ Area of polygon = 180 cm² + 120 cm².

➙ Area of polygon = 300 cm².

Hence the area of the given polygon is 300 cm².
