let the length of perpendicular be x

We get a triangle

We get base of the triangle by subtracting side of 3cm from side of 6cm.

which is 3cm.

Applying Pythagoras theorem,

x=\sqrt{5^{2}-3^{2}  }

 =4cm

Now taking height = 4cm,a=3cm and b=6cm

Area of trapezium=1/2(a+b)h

                             =1/2(6+3 )4

            2 gets cancelled and 4 turns to 2

                              = 9 x 2

                              =18cm^{2}

Therefore area is 18cm^2.
