area of whole figure (square)=l²

= 4²

= 16cm²

dia of center circle=2cm

radius= 2/2=1cm

area of center circle= πr²

= 22/7 ×(1)²

= 22/7× 1

≈ 3.14cm²

if we join all the sectors in the corners it will form a circle

area of circle= πr²

= 22/7×(1)²

= 22/7×1

≈ 3.14cm²

area of unshaded area= 3.14+3.14

= 6.28cm²

area of shade portion= whole - unshaded

= 16 - 6.28

= 9.72cm²
