This figure consists of a rectangle and a half-circle inside it .

So Length of Rectangle = 50cm

Breadth of rectangle = 14cm

So area = L × B = 50 × 14 = 700cm2

Half-circle :

Diameter of the circle is 14cm(which is also the breadth of the rectangle)

So Diameter = Radius × 2

So R = D/2 = 14/2 = 7cm.

So area of the circle = πr2 = 22  × 7 × 7 (cancel 7 and 7) = 22 × 7 = 154cm2

So full circle area is 154cm2 , but we need the area of the half-circle , so the area is 154/2 = 77cm2

So area of shaded portion = Area of rectangle - Area of half-circle = 700CM2 - 77CM2 = 623CM2.
