diameter-2cm
radius= 2/2= 1cm
∴area of that circle= πr²
22/7 ×1×1
∴area=22/7
the quadrants on 4 sides would together form a one circle of radius 1cm.
∴it's area= πr²
22/7×1×1
∴area=22/7
area of the square= a²
= 4×4
=16cm.
∴the area of the shaded region= area of the square - area of the circle in the center - area of the 4 quadrants.
area of the shaded region= 16- 22/7 -22/7
= 16-44/7
=112-44/7
=68/7
=9.71cm
∴the area of the shaded region is 9.71cm
