first we have to find the area of total region

So, Area of rectangle =length x breadth

                                    =12 x 26=312

  then,    length of the unshaded region =12-8=4m

              breadth of unshaded region =26-6=20m

     now,  area of the unshaded region =4x20=80 m^2

     thus, Area of shaded region  =312-80=232 m^2
