total \: area \:  =  \: 10 \times 10 = 100 {cm}^{2}

non \: shaded \: area \:  =  \frac{10 - 2}{2}  =  \frac{8}{2}  = 4 \times 2 = 8 {cm}^{2}

let \: the \: shaded \: area =  \\ total \: area \:  -  \: non \: shaded \: area \\ 100 {cm}^{2}  - 32 {cm}^{2}  = 68 {cm}^{2}  \\  \\  \\ so \: your \: answer \: is \: 68 {cm}^{2}
