Area is 882 cm².

Step-by-step explanation:

The two shaded regions parallel to the width of the rectangle ABCD i.e. parallel to AB has an area

= 2 × (3 × 90)

= 540 cm²

Again, the area of the shaded region parallel to the length of the rectangle ABCD i.e. parallel to BC is

= 3 × 120

= 360 cm²

Now, there are two common regions between the calculated regional area and we have to deduct it.

So, the area of the total shaded region is

= 540 + 360 - 2(3 × 3)

= 900 - 18

= 882 cm² (Answer)
