Find the area of the shaded region of the figure given below

Answer:

Let r be the radius of semicircle.

Then 2r=diameter of semicircle(d).

Now 2r =hypotenuse of triangle.

By Pythagoras theorem,

d^2=12^2+5^2

On solving,

d=13 cm.

d/2=r

r=13/2 cm.

Now Area of semicircle=( πr^2) /2

Substituting the value of r we get

Area of semicircle=66.33cm^2.

Area of triangle= (base ×height) /2

=30cm^2.

Area of shaded region = Area of semicircle - Area of triangle.

Area of shaded region=66.33-30

=36.33cm^2.
