Area of shaded region = area of square ABCD - 4 × area of each arc
area of square = (side length)²
= (12cm)² = 144 cm²
area of each arc = 1/4 πr²
Here you can see radius of circular arc is half of side length of square
e.g., r = 12/2 = 6cm
so, area of each arc = 1/4 × 3.14 × (6)² = 3.14 × 9 = 28.26 cm
∴ area of shaded region = 144cm² - 4 × 28.26 cm²
= 144cm² - 113.04 cm²
= 30.96 cm²
area of square = (side length)²
= (12cm)² = 144 cm²
area of each arc = 1/4 πr²
Here you can see radius of circular arc is half of side length of square
e.g., r = 12/2 = 6cm
so, area of each arc = 1/4 × 3.14 × (6)² = 3.14 × 9 = 28.26 cm
∴ area of shaded region = 144cm² - 4 × 28.26 cm²
= 144cm² - 113.04 cm²
= 30.96 cm²
