Answer:

1st ans=2376 cm^2

2nd ans = 1408 cm^2

Step-by-step explanation:

diameter= 28 cm

so radius= 28 cm/2= 14 cm

height = 20 cm

area of the sheet required to make a cylindrical container which is open at one side= total surface area of cylinder - lid of cylinder

= 2πr(r+h) - πr^2

= 2 * 22/7 * 14 cm (14 cm + 20 cm) - 22/7 * 14 cm * 14 cm

=2992 cm ^2 - 616 cm^2

ans =2376 cm^2

Height of lid = 2 cm

radius of lid =  radius of cylinder = 14 cm

so,area of the sheet required to make a lid = 2πr(r+h)

= 2 * 22/7 * 14 cm * (14 cm + 2 cm)

=2 * 22 * 2 cm * 16 cm

ans = 1408 cm^2
