Usning Distance Formula

Length of 1 side of square

 = \sqrt{ ({2 - 0})^{2}  + ( { - 1 - 1})^{2} } \\  \\  = \sqrt{4 + 4} \\  \\  = \sqrt{8}

Now , Area of square

= side × side

= \sqrt{8} × \sqrt{8}

= 8 sq. unit
