area of square =

 {s}^{2}

when s is doubled

area of square will be

 =  {2s}^{2}  = 4 {s}^{2}

4 times of original area

when s is halved

area of square will be

 =  { \frac{s}{2} }^{2}  =   \frac{ {s}^{2} }{4}

that 1/4th of original area
