In triangle ABD,

AB=AD and angle BAD=90°.

Let AB=AD=x.

Using Pythagoras theorem,

36=2x^2

x^2=18

x=3√2 cm

Area of triangle=1/2 × base × height

= 1/2 × AD × DC

= 1/2 × 3√2 × 3√2

= 9 cm^2
