GIVEN:

Vertices of a triangle = (2,3) (-1,0) and (2,-4)

TO FIND:

Area of the triangle.

SOLUTION:

Let the points be A(2,3), B(-1,0) and C(2,-4)

We know that,

Area of triangle ABC = 1/2 | x1(y2 - y3) + x2(y3 - y1) + x3(y1 - y2) |

From the above vertices,

x1 = 2 ; y1 = 3

x2 = -1 ; y2 = 0

x3 = 2 ; y3 = -4

Substituting the values,

Ar( ∆ ABC ) = 1/2 | 2(0 -(-4) ) - 1 (-4 - 3) + 2(3 - 0) |

= 1/2 | 2 (4) - (-7) + 2(3) |

= 1/2 | 8 + 7 + 6 |

= 1/2 | 21 |

= 10.5

Therefore, the Ar ( ∆ ABC ) is 10.5 square units.
