First we will find the area of the square

= side × side

= 12 × 12

= 144 cm Sq.

Secondly we will find the area of triangle

= ( height × base ) ÷ 2

= ( 4 × 12 ) ÷ 2

= 48 ÷ 2

= 24 cm Sq.

Since the area of unshaded part will be

= area of square - area of triangle

= 144 - 24

= 120
