Given:

The parallel sides of a trapezium are 12 cm and 16 cm and the distance between the parallel sides is 10 cm.

To find:

The area of a trapezium.

Solution:

To solve this question, first of all, we should know the formula for finding the area of trapezium.

If a trapezium ABCD have lengths of two parallel sides- x units and y units and the distance between two parallel sides is k units then its area will be given by:

 =  \frac{1}{2}  \times sum \: of \: two \: parallel \: sides \times distance \: between \: two \: parallel \: sides

 =  \frac{1}{2} \times  (x + y) \times k

Now,

as given, we have,

Lengths of two parallel sides of a trapezium = 12 cm and 16 cm

Distance between two parallel sides = 10 cm

So,

the area of the trapezium is

 =  \frac{1}{2}  \times (12 + 16) \times 10

 =  \frac{1}{2}  \times 28 \times 10

 = 14 \times 10

 = 140 \:  {cm}^{2}

Hence, the area of the given trapezium is 140 Square centimetres.
