put X=0
then y=4
put y=0
then X=6
hence y intercept is 4 and X intercept is 6
area=1/2 *base *height
area=1/2 *6*4
area=12

Given:

The triangle formed by the line 2x+3y=12 and the coordinate axis

To Find:

The Area of the triangle.

Solution:

We have the line equation 2x + 3y = 12 .

We can convert it into intercept form to get coordinates of its intersection with the coordinate axis.

  • 2x + 3y = 12
  • In intercept form,
  • x/6 + y/4 = 1

Therefore

  • x intercept = (6,0)
  • y intercept = (0,4)

Therefore the area of triangle,

  • A = 0.5 x X intercept x Y intercept
  • A = 0.5 x 6 x 4
  • A = 12 sq units.

The area of triangle formed by the line 2x+3y=12 and the coordinate axis is 12 sq units.
