6x = x + 40(oppoite \: angle) \\ 6x - x = 40 \\ 5x = 40 \\ x = 8

x + 40 = 8 + 40 \\ 48

y + 48 = 180(straight \: line)

y = 180 - 48

y = 122

we can say that

6x = x + 40 [As vertically opposite angles]

Hence the value of x is 8

So

6x + y = 180 [Linear pair angles]

substuting the value of x as 8

48 + y = 180

y = 180 - 48

y = 132

Hence the value of y is 132
