We will solve this question by putting all the even numbers up to 100 in an ARITHMETIC PROGRESSION.

In this case, a = 2( which is the first even number), an = 98( which is the last even number before 100) and d = 2.

an = a + (n - 1)d

98 = 2 + (n - 1)2

98 = 2 + 2n - 2

n =  \frac{98}{2}

n = 49

sn =  \frac{n}{2} (a + an)

sn =  \frac{49}{2} (2 + 98)

sn = 49 \times 50

sn = 2450

average =  \frac{sum \:  of \: observations}{number \: of \: observations}

average = \frac{sn}{n}

average =  \frac{2450}{49}

average = 50
