F (resistance required) = m*a

By newton's laws of motion,

v^2-u^2=2as

0-400=2*a*25

a=-400/50

⇒a=-8m/s^2

Resistance required to stop the car will be

F=m*a

F=500*8

F=4000N ← Resistance required
