The charge on  Ca⁺² ions is 57811.2 Coulombs.

Given:

The mass of Ca⁺² ion = 12 g

To Find:

The charge in coulombs.

Solution:

We know,

"no of moles, n = given mass/molecular mass"

                        = 12/40

                        = 0.3

The reaction of Ca to Ca⁺² is given as

      Ca -------> Ca⁺²  +  2e⁻

1 mol gives 2 e⁻

0.3 mol gives = 0.3 × 2

                       = 0.6e⁻

We are required to find the charge on 12g of Ca⁺² ions,

The charge on ions = no.of moles×no.of atoms×magnitude of the charge

n = 0.6mol, no of atoms = 6.022x10^23 atoms, The magnitude of the charge = 1.6*10^x19 C

Putting the above value in the formula, we get

The charge on Ca⁺² ions = 0.6x6.022x10^23x1.6*10^x19

                                        = 57811.2 Coulombs.

Hence, The charge on  Ca⁺² ions is 57811.2 Coulombs.
