Let the required co-ordinates be (x,y), then,

⇒m₁=2 ; m₂=3 ; x₁=(-1) ; x₂=4 ; y₁=7 ; y₂=(-3)

we know that,

m₁x₂+m₂x₁/m₁+m₂ , m₁y₂+m₂y₁/m₁+m₂=(x,y)

2(4)+3(-1)/2+3 , 2(-3)+3(7)/2+3=(x,y)

8-3/5 , 21-6/5 = (x,y)

5/5 , 15/5=(x,y)

(1,3)=(x,y)

⇒∴(3,1) are the co-ordinates of the point which divides the join of (-1,7)and (4,-3) in the ratio 2:3
