given planes are at right angle if k = -8

Step-by-step explanation:

x -  2y  +  kz = 0

2x + 5y - z=0

Cos θ =  | 1 * 2  + (-2)*5  + k(-1) / (√( 1² + (-2)² + k² * √2² + 5² +(-1)²)

Angle between these planes would be 90°

=>  θ = 90°

=> Cos 90°    = 0

=> 0  =| 1 * 2  + (-2)*5  + k(-1) / (√( 1² + (-2)² + k² * √2² + 5² +(-1)²)

=> 1  * 2  +  (-2) * 5  + k(-1) = 0

=> 2 - 10  - k = 0

=> - 8 - k = 0

=> k = - 8

given planes are at right angle if k = -8
