Given : points A  divides the segment joining A(0,5) and B(9,2) into three equal parts

To Find : coordinates of points

Solution:

A(0,5) and B(9,2)

C and D

AC = CD = DB

=> AC : CB  =  1: 2    and D is mid point  C & B

Ratio  =1 : 2

A(0,5) and B(9,2)

Cx = ( 1 * 9 + 2 * 0)/3    Cy  = ( 1 * 2 + 2 * 5)/3

= 3                                     = 4

C = ( 3 , 4)

C = ( 3 , 4)  B(9,2)

=> D = ( 3 + 9)/2  , ( 4 + 2)/2

= 6 , 3

A (0 , 5)   C ( 3 , 4)  D ( 6 , 3)   B ( 9 , 2)

Hence point C ( 3 , 4)  D ( 6 , 3) divided line segments joining A(0,5) and B(9,2) into three equal parts
