The perpendicular distance is the shortest distance.

PRACHISHETTY: The nearest distance means the perpendicular distance. And the condition given to us is that the point to be found is on y-axis which means the x-coordinate or the abscissa is 0. therefore, the point will be (0,5)

First you will need to know that a co-ordinate of y-axis is in the form (0,y)
Now it should be nearest and the y co-ordinate of (-2,5) is 5
Therefore the point will be (0,5)

And also as Jessica told the perpendicular dist. from it to y will be at the point (0,5)
