Find the coordinates of the point P which divides the line joining of A (-2, 5) and B (3,-5) in the ratio 2:3.​

Solution:

Let P (x, 4) be the point which divides A (x1, y1)

= (-2, 5) and B (x2 y2) = (3, - 5) in the ratio of

m1:m2 =2:3

So,

x = m1x1+m2x2/M1+m2

= 2x3+3x(-2)/2+3

= 6-6/5

= 0

And y = m1y2+m2y2/m1+m2

= 2x(-5)+3x5/2+3

= -10+15/5

= 5/5

= 1

Hence-

P(x,y) = (0,1).
