Find the coordinates of the point which divides the line segments joining the points (5,-2) and (9,6) externally in the ratio of 3:1

x =  \frac{3 \times 5 - 1 \times 9}{3 - 1}  =  \frac{15 - 9}{2}  = 3 \\ y =  \frac{3 \times  - 2 - 1 \times 6}{3 - 1}  =  \frac{ - 6 - 6}{2}  =  - 6
