Find the cost of carpeting a room of 15 m long and 8 m broad with a carpet 50 cm broad
at the rate of Rs 110 per meter.

Cost of carpeting the room = Rs. 26400

Given :-

Length of the room = 15 m

Breadth of the room = 8 m

Width of the carpet = 50 cm

Cost of carpeting the room per meter = Rs. 110

Solution :-

First, we have to find the area of the room

$\longrightarrow$ Area of the room = Length of the room × Breadth of the room

$\longrightarrow$ Area of the room = 15 m × 8 m = 120 m²

As all the measurements are in metres. We have to convert width of the carpet into metres.

$\longrightarrow$ Width of the carpet = 50 cm

$\longrightarrow$ Width of the carpet = $\dfrac{50}{100}\:m = 0.5\:m$

Finding the length of the carpet.

$\longrightarrow$ Length of the carpet = $\dfrac{Area\:\:of\:\:room}{Width\:\:of\:\:the\:\:carpet}=\dfrac{120\:m^2}{0.5\:m} = 240\:m$

$\star$ Cost of carpeting the room

= Cost of carpeting the room per meter × Length of the carpet

= Rs. 110/m × 240 m

= Rs. 26400
